The Capitol Theater will host a free screening of DUST: The Lingering Legacy of 9/11 on Thursday, September 11 at 7:00 p.m. This award-winning documentary sheds light on the ongoing human toll of the September 11th attacks, highlighting the devastating health impacts that continue to claim lives nearly a quarter-century later.
This powerful documentary tells the story of thousands of first responders, workers, and residents who survived the attacks but later developed life-threatening illnesses from exposure to toxic dust at Ground Zero. Directed by Bridget Gormley — whose father, FDNY firefighter Billy Gormley, died of a 9/11-related cancer — DUST reveals the hidden, ongoing cost of that day and amplifies the voices of survivors, families, and advocates who are still fighting for recognition, healthcare, and justice.
Bridget Gormley collaborated with director/ producer Gerry Sievers and executive producers Olive Productions, Wren Arthur, and actor Steve Buscemi—himself a former New York City firefighter who responded on 9/11. Together, they created a documentary that shifts the 9/11 narrative from “what happened” to “what is happening now, and what have we learned?”
“This film reminds us that the aftermath of 9/11 is still unfolding,” said Myra Goldie, Executive Director of The Capitol. “We’re honored to provide our community with an opportunity to reflect, learn, and pay tribute to the lives lost that day and the lives that continue to be impacted.”
The screening is free and open to the public. Seating is first-come, first-served.
