There’s an untamed, visceral beauty in nature—its rawness, unpredictable moods, and wild edges. For artists, the challenge and thrill lie in capturing that essence, translating fleeting moments and rugged landscapes onto a canvas or through a photograph. The Macomb Arts Center’s upcoming exhibit, 'Plein Air Painters: Location Inspired,” offers a bird's-eye view into this world. Spectators are invited to experience nature through the eyes of artists who brave the elements, with their work on display beginning Tuesday, September 9. A reception for the event will take place that evening from 5 to 7 p.m.
With mediums as varied as watercolor, oil, ink, tissue collage, soft pastel, acrylic and mixed media, each artist brings a distinct approach to rendering nature’s raw spirit. Carolyn Bailey, Brenda Hance, Pat Hobbs, Nancy Jones, Maria Montalvo, Linda Peters, Jan Rockwell, Ginny Samuelson, Debbie Vandemark, Candace Winters-March, and others have channeled the unrestrained energy of the outdoors in their work, offering viewers a striking diversity through single or multiple pieces.
'Plein Air Painters: Location Inspired” will be on view through Saturday, October 18. Visitors can explore the exhibit during the MAC’s open hours: Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Fridays from 4 to 7 p.m., and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free.
There will be a Closing Reception and Live Auction for the Pamela Sue Johnson exhibition on Friday, Sept. 5, 6-8pm. The online silent auction will close at 6:30pm that evening and there will be a live auction at 7:00 of some of Pam’s remaining works. We are so grateful to Bob Johnson for generously donating all proceeds to the MAC. The Macomb Arts Center is located in the heart of the city at 25 East Side Square.
