MHS Girls Swim Team Places Fifth At Davenport

The Macomb High girls swim team finished fifth out of seven teams in Saturday’s Davenport Central Invitational.

The Bombers finished with 88 points, placing ahead of Davenport West (56) and West Central (32).

Host Davenport Central captured the team title with 332 points. Burlington, Iowa was next with 297 points, followed by Muscatine, Iowa (284) and North Scott (112).

Results for the Bombers were as follows:

200-yard medley relay - MHS (Kallie Merrill, Hannah Zhang, Lucy Buchanan and Lily Goc), seventh, two minutes,

32.29 seconds.

200 freestyle - Rylee Mackey, 10th, 3:29.13.

200 individual medley - Buchanan, 10th, 2:49.28.

50 freestyle - Merrill, ninth, 32.83; Catlyn Cousins, 12th,

42.07; Ridley Lewis, 15th, 43.93 and Jazmyn Nateras, 17th,

1:09.87.

100 butterfly - Buchanan, sixth, 1:20.66 and Goc, ninth,

2:18.53.

100 freestyle - Zhang, sixth, 1:04.95; Mackey, 16th, 1:36.96 and Cousins, 17th, 1:38.08.

500 freestyle - No entries.

200 freestyle relay - MHS (Merrill, Nateras, Lewis and Zhang), eighth, 3:59.70.

100 backstroke - Merrill, 11th, 1:30.93; Goc, 14th, 1:56.16 and Nateras, 15th, 3:33.76.

100 breaststroke - Zhang, sixth, 1:26.60 and Ridley, 14th,

2:11.75.

400 freestyle relay - MHS (Mackey, Cousins, Goc and Buchanan), fifth, 6:07.30.

One-meter diving - No entries. “Every swimmer earned points to contribute to the team score, with Hannah Zhang as our high point earner of 24 points,” noted MHS girls swim coach Tonya Hamer. “All three veteran swimmers dropped time in their events from the end of last season already. Five brand new swimmers established solid base times.”

“I’m really looking forward to seeing what these girls can do this season,” she added.

The Bombers return to the pool Saturday hosting their annual invitational meet at MHS.
