West Prairie Opens Season With Win; B-PC Defeated

The West Prairie High School volleyball squads opened their respective seasons with victories, while the Bushnell- Prairie City varsity squad was defeated as the 2025 season began this week.

On Tuesday at Monmouth, West Prairie beat host Monmouth- United, rallying for a 23-25, 25-20, 25-21 victory.

Statistical leaders for the Cyclones included the following: Defensive Digs – Abby Starbuck, 12; Niah Zimmerman, nine; Madelynn Sullivan and Alyvia Barkley, seven each.

Blocks – Jaycee Reynoso, 3.5 total blocks. Serving – Sullivan, two aces and 13 points; Zimmerman and Starbuck, one ace each.

Hitting – Alyvia Barkley, six kills; Zimmerman, four kills and Alexa Barkley, three kills.

Setting – Sullivan, 18 assists. The West Prairie JV also won, recording a 25-19, 25-20 victory.

The Cyclones headed to Havana Thursday to begin Prairieland Conference South Division play.

On Saturday, West Prairie will head to Brophy Hall on the Western Illinois University campus to play in the Macomb Classic.

In pool play, the Cyclones will face Limestone at 8 a.m., Pleasant Plains at 10 a.m. and Kewanee High at noon. The team will then play two more matches, one at 3:15 p.m. and the other at either 4:15 p.m. or 5:15 p.m.

On Sept. 2, West Prairie opens play in the Lady Suns Classic at Augusta, facing Rushville-Industry at Augusta, 7 p.m.

Meanwhile, Monday night at Biggsville saw B-PC lose to host West Central 25-18, 25-14.

The Spartans headed to Manito Thursday to face Midwest Central.

On Sept. 2, the B-PC squads will play at Knoxville.
