Macomb City Township Supervisor Angela Markley reported Monday that the township distributed $9,717 in general assistance during July, with shelter costs accounting for the largest share at $6,790.
Markley’s report showed 28 general assistance applications were reviewed last month. Of those, seven were denied, and decisions are still pending on 11 cases.
Among applicants, six men and three women were deemed employable. Seven men and eight women have applied for disability benefits, while two men and two women were medically exempt from employment.
So far in August, Markley said her office has handed out 10 new applications and scheduled interviews for another 10 applicants.
