The YMCA Senior Center will be hosting Jordan Frieberg, Senior Investigator-Securities Enforcement with the State of Illinois on Wednesday, August 27 at 12:30pm. He will discuss common forms of investment fraud, discuss red flags to look for and provide resources to help avoid being victimized. People that have already experienced a scam will also benefit.
According to the FTC, Illinois was the 10 th most impacted state by fraud (per 100k population). Investment fraud caused the largest total financial losses to Illinoisans compared to all other forms of fraud (identity theft, debt collector scams, phishing).
The agenda will cover the following topics: the role of the Illinois Securities Department, what to look for, common forms of fraud, and tips to spot and avoid fraud.
Real-life examples of investment fraud will be presented as well as resources.
This program is presented by a state government agency, and this is a purely educational presentation, not a sales pitch.
Offering these free investor education programs is part of the department’s duties.
