Rushville-Spoon River College is offering the below Woodworking classes.
Beginning Woodworking will be held on Wednesday’s, September 3rd – November 19th from 6-9:15pm. Students in this class will learn about basic woodworking. Topics to be covered include; tools and equipment, planning and design, selecting materials, shop safety, material assembly and final surface preparation. Tools that will be used and demonstrated in class include; Radial Arm Saw, Table Saw, Jointer, Planer, Lathe, Drill Press, Band Saw, Various Sanders, Router, Shaper and Portable Power Tools. Students will be given hands-on training and discuss woodworking planning and techniques, as well as, complete their own woodworking project utilizing the skills and techniques learned in class.
Advanced Woodworking will be held on Monday’s from 6-9:15pm, and divided into two sessions. Students can register for one or both sessions. The first session will run from September 8th-October 13th. (No class on 9/15). The second session will run October 20th- November 17th.
Students will build upon their previous woodworking skills.
In Advanced Woodworking, students will select, design, and construct their own project. Topics covered include; planning and design, selecting materials, review of shop safety, material assembly and final surface preparation. Students will be given hands-on training and discuss woodworking planning and techniques, as well as, complete their own advanced woodworking project utilizing the skills and techniques learned in class. REQUIREMENTS: Beginning Woodworking class.
These classes are for ages 16 and older and are instructed by Andrew Stevenson. There are fees to attend and pre-registration is required. Classes will be held in the Rushville-Industry High School Shop. The wood shop is located just before the Schuyler Industry Middle School gymnasium entrance at the north end of Maple Ave; it is a small brick building on the right side with a 21 on the door.
