The McDonough County Housing Authority marked a milestone Friday, August 15, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new playground at Prairieview Townhomes. This addition is part of a series of recent investments aimed at enhancing outdoor spaces and amenities for residents.
Over the past two years, the Housing Authority has invested approximately $1.6 million in improvements at Prairieview Townhomes, including a $150,000 laundromat, $1.2 million in siding upgrades, $7,500 for landscaping renewal, and $158,000 for the new playground.
Annette Carper, Executive Director of the McDonough County Housing Authority, said the complex maintains an average occupancy rate of 98 percent. She emphasized the importance of the upgrades, saying, “We want people to feel comfortable in their homes, feel safe, and be proud of where they live.”
The new laundromat expands laundry services to the east side of the Townhomes and was renovated within the past two years. Funding for these projects comes from HUD Capital funding.
Carper expressed satisfaction with the progress: “I feel really good about where we are at. The Townhomes look nice.”
