The Colchester Police Department reported total expenditures of $10,434.44 for July, including $8,617 paid monthly to the McDonough County Sheriff’s Department for police coverage and $1,744 in salaries for local officers.
Despite modest revenues of $57.30, the department has strengthened its ranks by swearing in three new part-time officers in recent months. This increase brings the total number of part-time officers to six, with Andy Jack continuing as police chief.
The department’s vehicle fleet also saw improvements. Instead of purchasing costly new equipment, the department repurposed parts from an older cruiser—originally slated for auction—to upgrade a 2017 police vehicle. Additionally, a new police truck was acquired in February 2025.
