The Macomb Zoning Board of Appeals last week granted The Pawn Shop at 324 West Jackson Street permission to display a third feather flag outside its storefront.
New owner James Young told the board, “We’d like to attract attention to our location.” He said the additional flag will help inform passers-by that the shop offers jewelry repair and buys gold.
Miranda Lambert, Macomb’s Community Development Director, supported the request, calling the extra flag “a good way to promote its business.”
Currently, two feather flags stand outside the shop. With the variance approved, Young will place one flag in front and two along the side of the building.
Separately, Young raised a concern about a pile of shipping containers behind his store, asking why the city wanted them removed after they had been there for 14 years. Lambert said no code enforcement complaint had been filed about the containers until 2020.
