August Antique & Collectibles Club Meeting
The Antique & Collectibles Club of West Central Illinois is proud to announce that James Hoyle will be this month’s presenter. The club meets on Wednesday, August 20, at 7 pm in the Community Room of City Hall. This will be an informative and delightful program. The public is welcome to attend.
From the age of 5, James worked in the family auction business in Bushnell, Illinois. He was sent into basements and attics to gather antiques and collectibles as part of sorting estates for auction. James started collecting coins, records, and stamps at age 8. By age 16, James was driving to yard sales and auctions in surrounding towns to buy items to sell through his father’s auction house. As a young adult, James traveled to antique shows to sell his items and had antique booths at various times throughout Illinois in Atlanta, Galesburg, Peoria, and Williamsville.
James has been an attorney for the last 25 years and served as McDonough County State’s Attorney from 2004 to 2016. He has been at his current practice, Hoyle Law Office, in Macomb, Illinois for the last 8 years. James has a large variety of antiques at his home and office, including art glass, political memorabilia, presidential history, antique books and pottery.
After collecting for nearly 50 years, James has accumulated a large collection of art glass, which includes over 100 pieces of French Cameo Glass. The French makers include Emile Galle, Daum Nancy, Legras, DeVez, and d’Argental. James has approximately 500 vases of various makers, including Loetz, Kralik, Rindskopf, Harrachov, Pallme Konig, Monte Joye, and Ernest Baptiste Leveille. Included in the vase collection are several Victorian-era manufactures from America and Europe. Manufacturers include Mt. Washington, Webb, Steuben, Stevens and Williams, Consolidated Glass Co., and Franz Pallme-Koenig.
James is excited to have the opportunity to share several examples of French Cameo Glass with you on August 20, 2025. James will bring a sampling of various artisans, styles, and price ranges. He will also provide examples of reproductions and fakes to help you understand and appreciate the difference between authentic pieces and reproductions of French Cameo glass.
Members are welcome to bring a glass item for James to identify and value.
