Plymouth Old Settlers Days August 22-24

The 138th annual Plymouth Old Settlers event will take place August 22-24, promising three days of tradition, fun, and community spirit.

The festivities kick off Friday evening with a Hog Roast, carnival opening, and the Little Miss and Master contest, capped by a fireworks display. The following days feature a lively parade, car and tractor shows, a Fish & Chicken dinner, live entertainment, bounce houses, and games for the children.

This year’s Grand Marshals are Vernon and Charlene Siepel, honored for their deep roots and dedication to Plymouth. Vernon, born February 16, 1947, and Charlene, born January 16, 1949, have been pillars of the community. Vernon, a 1965 Plymouth High School graduate, served four years in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in North Dakota and Southeast Asia. It was in North Dakota that Vernon met Charlene, whom he married on August 22, 1970. Their 55th wedding anniversary coincides with this year’s Old Settlers celebration.

The Siepels have four children and are active members of the Plymouth American Legion and Macomb VFW. Vernon fondly recalls attending Old Settlers as a child, enjoying the rides, games, and parade. Charlene treasures the parade, food, and community spirit. The couple has supported every Plymouth Old Settlers event and fundraiser for the past decade.

The Plymouth Old Settlers tradition began in October 1883 with the first Tri-County Old Settlers' Association reunion in Plymouth Park. More than 3,000 people attended, with baking contests, speeches by political figures, fiddler contests, band concerts, and dances that brought together current and former residents. Today, the event continues to honor that heritage each third weekend of August, welcoming all to celebrate community and reconnect.
