The Bushnell City Council met Monday evening to approve a personnel promotion, discuss critical infrastructure projects, and prepare for upcoming community events.
Mayor Dave Norton called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall, with all aldermen and city officials present.
The council unanimously promoted Chaney Ferguson to Gas Foreman, awarding him a $2 hourly raise. Alderman Kim Havens made the motion, seconded by Alderman Stacey Allen.
Utility Manager Joe Fosdyck and Public Works representatives Greg Fulkerson and Kent Cox briefed the council on challenges with the East Lagoon sludge. They plan to analyze samples from the lagoon’s first cell to determine necessary next steps.
The Washington Street improvement project will require replacing lead service lines at five homes. Contractor Laverdiere submitted a bid of $7,000 per replacement, totaling $35,000. The city will apply for a $40,000 grant to conduct a residential lead service survey, with engineering firm IMEG handling the paperwork.
In public safety matters, the council approved a liquor license for the Fall Festival committee. Police Chief Justin Hood reported that a community service worker is assisting with weed spraying and park maintenance around town. The council also agreed to sell a decommissioned police vehicle and authorized Chief Hood to purchase Fatal Vision Goggles using donations from the DARE program.
Mayor Norton cautioned council members to be vigilant against spam emails targeting city officials.
No updates were provided from the Parks and Recreation or Engineering departments.
