In 2024, older adults lost nearly $5 billion to scams and fraud, according to the FBI. To help area residents “stop the scam,” Wesley Village will present a special free event Monday, Aug. 18.
“The Scam Stops Here,” presented by Jessica Tharp of the Peoria Better Business Bureau (BBB) and McDonough District Hospital staff, will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the Wesley Village Community Center. The seminar is open free to the public. The conversation will focus on the most common scams targeting older adults including fake celebrities, phone scams, phishing emails and tech support fraud, among others.
“We’re committed to not only helping our residents remain safe and informed, we’re dedicated to providing programs that benefit our friends and neighbors,” said Lisa Ward, Wesley’s director of development.
While the event is being offered at no cost, participants must reserve their spot by calling (309) 833-2123, ext. 273, or emailing [email protected].
