Rotary Club of Macomb Highlights

The Rotary of Macomb meets Tuesdays at noon at the First Presbyterian Church.

Aug. 5, 2025, Our 6th meeting of the Rotary year commenced with President Seth Minter ceremoniously ringing the Rotary bell. Larry Adams delivered the invocation, and Garry Johnson led the “Pledge of Allegiance.”

Rotarian Dennis Iversen then reported attendance, noting that 33 members who were present and 2 on Zoom representing 66% of the club’s membership. We had 2 guests, making 37 total in attendance. Our guests were our speaker, Paul Bubb from WIU, and Tom Casey.

Happy Money was collected from 6 Rotarians who were celebrating a happy occasion or event that occurred during the week.

President Seth made two announcements. First, Hy-Vee has suggested adding a Chinese menu to be served occasionally, and members are invited to contact Seth if they have any objections to this addition. Second, September 2025 includes a fifth Tuesday, and he plans to organize a social event on that date, with more details to be provided later.

Todd Lester introduced Paul Bubb, WIU Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, who joined WIU in 2018 as Executive Director of Development before becoming Athletic Director in June 2022. Paul brought 30 years of experience from several universities to serve at WIU in this position. Paul is a local native and a VIT High School graduate, married with three daughters and four grandchildren.

Paul discussed his connections to WIU and Macomb, sharing personal stories that highlighted the importance of community in his role. He updated the audience on WIU’s strategic plan for athletics, which aims to align with the broader Macomb 20122032 Master Plan. He noted the progress that has been completed in conference changes, coaching hires, and facility plans. He presented the majority of his goals that been completed, but he has some goals that are still being worked on —such as improvements to Hanson Field grandstands and the press box.

Paul concluded by emphasizing that, above all, WIU’s primary focus remains “Student Success”.

Club members offered questions and thanked Paul for his dedication to WIU and the successes he has already implemented in the Athletic Department and to the program.

The club recited the “Four Way Test”, which was followed by ringing the Rotary bell and encouraging everyone to make Rotary Part Of Their Life – and to “Unite For Good”.
