Macomb PD's 'Block Party' Brings Families, Public Service Workers Together – 60 Photos

The Macomb Police Department's National Night Out event drew a big crowd Tuesday evening, giving local families the opportunity to meet-and-greet officers, rescue workers and social service agencies in a fun environment.

"This is a block party with the police department," Police Chief Jeff Hamer said. "It's hugely important, having the community see us just as people, and for us to see them out in the community."

The event blocked off the stretch of McArthur Street in front of the police station and Sheriff's office. Attractions included food, giveaways, a bounce house and foam party.

Mayor Mike Inman paced the stretch of vendor tables, interviewing representatives about their work over a PA system. There were more than 20 tables representing local services.

Hamer said it's been a fun event where citizens can interact with service workers outside of non-call environments

"It gets the community, not only in front of us, but in front of our partners who make our jobs easier," he said.
