Macomb Farmer’s Market has welcomed this year a new vendor duo from Ipava, Charlie and Anne Lascelles. Their large blackberries have been a hit at the Macomb Farmer’s Market and they are selling out with each appearance.
The Lascelles name in Fulton County is synonymous with a love for the outdoors.
Charlie and Anne have a blackberry patch which is approximately a half acre in size. They got the idea to raise blackberries when Charlie’s brother Jim and his wife kelly had more than enough plants and gave some starters to Charlie and Anne.
The two have been selling by word of mouth and also have had some listings on Facebook Market Place. But after selling completely out at Macomb Farmer’s Market several times, they are planning on returning next year as regular vendors.
Charlie and Anne raise a thornless variety of blackberry and the blackberry season is fairly short, July and some of August.
Charlie does the pruning when he has spare time from his full time job with VIT School District.
A recent harvest by Charlie and Anne yielded a whopping 60 gallons in one picking.
The Lascelles’ charge $25 for a gallon pail and $5 for a pint bag. Their berries sell well at the Macomb Farmer’s Market, the Lascelles’ said.
If Charlie and Anne are out of blackberries when you encounter them, they are more than happy to send your business to his brother Jim and sister-in-law Kelly.
Jim and Kelly also live in rural Ipava and chances are they may have blackberries to sell.
Outside of Macomb Farmer’s Market, Anne Lascelles can be reached by messaging her on her Facebook page.
Charlie and Anne, like the entire Lascelles family, love the outdoors. Besides raising blackberries they are avid hunters and love to fish.
Charlie is the son of the late Dale Lascelles, who was well known in the Fulton County area for playing men’s softball, farming and trapshooting.
