Hemp & Company of Macomb, Illinois was a mid20th century manufacturer known for its “Little Brown Jug” line—ceramiclined beverage jugs, thermoses, and woodlike metal coolers and ice chests. The company was founded by Lewis W. Hemp in St. Louis and was incorporated into a partnership with his sons. They eventually established a branch in Macomb and was first listed in the city directory in 1936. Hemp and Co. eventually became part of King Seeley Thermos Co. and eventually moved to Mississippi in 1984.
