2025 Bushnell-Prairie City FFA Alumni Livestock Show, Sale Rules

1. The Livestock Show & Sale will be held August 20, 2025, with entrees due August 13, 2025.

2. Weather permitting, the sight of the Show and Sale will be the West Side Park (behind the library).

3. Weigh-in will be from 12 pm to 1 pm. The Livestock Show will begin at 2:30 pm with the sale to begin at 4:30 pm.

4. Order of the show will be sheep, market goats, swine, meat trios and beef with the sale to follow the same order.

5. The Show and Sale is open to members in Cloverbuds, 4-H and/or FFA that live in the Bushnell-Prairie City and West Prairie School Districts.

6. Eligibility is open to ages seven (7) as of September 1 of the previous year through nineteen (19) as of September 1 of the current year.

7. The animals exhibited must be part of the exhibitor’s 4-H and/or FFA projects and can be verified with record books from FFA or through the 4-H leader. All tattoos or identification markings must be easily identifiable by show officials.

8. Steers must have been weighed and tattooed by March 15th and must present signed nomination papers at the time of weigh-in. Steers must have a legible tattoo or ID tag. Exhibitors may opt to send a copy of the nomination papers along with his/her entry form. Steers without a nomination paper will be disqualified.

9. Sheep and goats must have a legible tattoo or Scrappie/ID Tag.

10. Preferably, all animals will have been previously exhibited.

11. Exhibitors may sell two animals or two meat trios of chickens or rabbits, or any combination thereof, with only one of those animals being a steer. A decision will be made, in compliance with state guidelines, concerning the exhibition of live birds or the use of photos.

12. Fees will be collected in the amounts of $10.00 per animal. This amount will be automatically deducted from the exhibitor’s sale check.

13. Each exhibitor will be required to help in the set-up and clean up of the park area. If an exhibitor cannot aid in set-up AND clean-up, they must find a substitute helper for EACH exhibitor. A penalty of $50 will be assessed per exhibitor for violation of this rule. Set-up will be on the proceeding Monday, August 19th at 6:00 p.m. Clean-up will begin following the auction.

14. All pigs, market goats and sheep must have a health paper and present the papers prior to unloading.

15. Drenching of animals, the use of drugs or use of any other unethical practices are strictly prohibited and will result in disqualification from the Show and Sale.

16. All animals will be sold at the end of the Show and Sale. The buyer may market the animals if they so desire. Animals not taken by the buyer will be allowed to return to the farm under the understanding that those animals be marketed.

17. Awards will be presented to Champion and Reserve Champion in each category as well as Beef Rate-of-Gain.

18. The FFA alumni secretary will hold all payments from sales until the seller writes a letter of thanks to their respective buyers. Once written, the seller should give completed, stamped notes to the FFA Advisor or alumni secretary. All letters are to be completed within 30 days of the auction or the seller shall forfeit proceeds. Letters should be fully addressed, possess a return address and be stamped. Incomplete thank-you notes will be returned to the exhibitor for correction.

19. Payment from buyers at the time of auction is requested & greatly appreciated!

20. Exhibitors shall include a mailing address on the entry blank. Checks will be mailed to that address.

21. Electricity will not be used for grooming purposes.

22. All concerns/appeals the day of the show will be addressed to the Show Governing Committee. This committee is composed of the division superintendents and the alumni president.

Other concerns/appeals will be addressed by the Show and Sale Committee.

23. Only sole ownerships will be recognized in the Bushnell-Prairie City FFA Alumni Livestock Show & Sale.

24. This is a no-fit show.
