The Macomb Historic Preservation Commission voted last week to award a certificate of appropriateness for a door change on the facade at 125 1/2 North Randolph Street. Community Development Director Miranda Lambert told commissioners that this is a side door entrance. 'It's design provides a modern look,' she said.
Property Manager Lauren Kane said the side door leads to an apartment used by out of town business partners. She said the door improvement will provide apartment privacy. Kane said the new door would cost $1,000 while a more traditional door would cost $3,000.
Examining the design, Commission Chairman Dennis Danowski asked, 'Does it look too modern?' Commissioner Sue Scott responded, 'It's a little trendy, but the building's overall design is modern.'
After the commission unanimously approved the request, Danowski said to Kane, 'Thank you for helping to beautify the downtown.'
