The Collectors of Illinois Pottery and Stoneware, COIPS, will host the 3rd annual Swap Meet on the east side of Chandler Park on Saturday, August 2nd from 8 am to noon. Participants are asked to enter from Carrol street and back into spaces and set up on the grass. There will be vendors from several states with pottery for sale or trade. If you have pottery to sell, you are encouraged to bring some with you as all collectors also buy!. There will be an appraisal booth if you want to know more about your pottery. Set up is free and there is no charge to attend the event. Dr.
David Hess, from Macomb, plans to be there with his book on Ripley Pottery and hopefully the book on the Macomb Potteries will also be available at the show.
Macomb was very important in pottery production having several potteries over the years. The last pottery in Macomb was Haeger Pottery which was in the same building as The Pech and Buckeye Potteries.
Clay in the area was ideal for pottery and that is why Illinois had so many potteries.
Why not come out and join us for an interesting morning and to learn more about a local and very important industry in Macomb’s history.
