City Of Bushnell Approves Generator for Power Plant, Moves Forward on Washington Street Project

During a regular monthly meeting, City Officials approved the purchase of a new Electro-Motive diesel engine for the generator for a bid of $1.5 million to improve the power generation plant which has been in continuous operation since May 31, 1965 with a capacity of 2.2 MW.

One of the oldest parts of Bushnell will soon be receiving water and infrastructure improvements, located along Washington Street/Boulevard from Gridley Street to Harris Avenue, in what has been called the Washington Street Project.

The project was awarded to IMEG in June, 2024 and the city has received money from the State Community Development Block Grant worth just under $1.5 million. A meeting between the city and engineers from IMEG is scheduled to take place in Macomb on July 17 to discuss ongoing preparations.

The scope of the Washington Street project is significant with plans for potential infrastructure upgrades within the northwestern portion with approximately 2,937 lineal feet of 8-inch, and 416 lineal feet of 10-inch PVC sewer mains, 14 manholes; and all related appurtenances.

Some of the original bricks from the latter half of the 1800’s still make up that road.

In other news, according to a social media post made on July 4, 2025 on Facebook, the Bushnell Locker Plant, located at 330 Green St., will soon be reopening under the new ownership of Joel Hisey with a opening date yet to be determined.

Steph’s Spin & Win Laundromat, located at 1006 Cole St. is now open. The business also has gaming in the back which has been open for several months.
