Macomb aldermen got more information Monday about the city’s newest restaurant, Dat Wing Spot at 928 West Jackson Street.
The city council’s committee of the whole meeting focused on the business application for a restaurant liquor license.
Informed last week that the restaurant might eventually host live music, Alderman Dave Dorsett asked if there would be adequate parking. Co-owner John Paterson said he has permission from a neighboring business to use its parking area. Community Development Director Miranda Lambert said she will need to verify any agreements for additional parking.
Business owners told aldermen that they feel their neighborhood offers a good atmosphere for older adults. Their closing time is 8 p.m. so they are not competing with late night bars.
In other business, aldermen discussed a proposed amendment to add special use options to the city’s business matrix. Lambert said businesses would be allowed to apply for special use designation. The Macomb Planning Commission would make a recommendation on each request and the city council would take final action.”We’re looking for the best fit for new businesses,” Lambert said.
Earlier in the day on Monday, the city sent out an announcement that July 29 will be the date for an open house on rehabilitation grants for owners who occupy single family homes in the city’s tax increment finance (TIF) districts. Grant applications will be accepted starting August 4.
