MNB Great Start Scholarship Winners Announced

(Macomb) Kathryn Killian-Johnson has been awarded one of MidAmerica National Bank’s Great Start Scholarships for the 20252026 school year. These scholarships were created to help local students get a “great start” on their education.

Kathryn is a 2025 graduate of Macomb High School, where she was part of the Dance Team, Choir, Track Team, WIU Horn Field Campus, Project Dance Company, and Art Club. She has been recognized for various awards such as the McDonough County Quality of Life Youth Task Force Award, Illinois 8th District Veterans of Foreign Wars Audio Essay Champion, Veterans of Foreign Wars 1921 Audio Essay Champion, WSIUTV’s Top Teen, National Honor Society, McDonough County’s CEO Program, and Macomb High School Letterman.

Kathryn is also very involved with community service and entrepreneurship. She founded the Community Change organization which has raised over $14,000 for the Macomb High School Guidance Office to support students with mental health issues. She has been volunteering in her community through her school, Project Dance Company, and through multiple other organizations as well. Kathryn also founded Kapture by Kate, her photography business, and Kate’s Summer Services, her business that helps give back to kids who are food insecure.

She will begin attending Western Illinois University this fall, where she plans to pursue studies in Speech Pathology and Audiology, along with Law Enforcement.

Kathryn was presented with a $500 scholarship that will be applied to her college tuition.
