The Macomb City Council voted 4 to 2 last week to reject an application for a restaurant liquor license for Rocky's Bar & Grill at 1420 West Jackson Street. Aldermen Don Wynn and Justin Schuch voted in favor of the ordinance, but Aldermen John Vigezzi, Byron Shabbaz, Dave Dorsett, and Jennifer Hemingway voted against it Alderman Ashley Katz was absent.
Mayor Mike Inman encouraged the new owner to reapply next month for the liquor license. Community Development Director Miranda Lambert said she still needs to inspect exterior site plans before a certificate of occupancy can be issued. City Attorney Lisa Scalf said extensive interior remodeling is anticipated.
The city council also held a public hearing on a restaurant liquor license application for Dat Wing Spot at 928 West Jackson Street. Co-owner John Patterson said the building is open from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from Noon to 2 p.m. and 3 to 8 p.m.on Saturdays. He said the business is serving chicken and, once the liquor license is issued, bottled beer. Patterson said, 'We'd like to draw an older mature crowd' He added that live music may eventually be added.
